In the above example, SAMPLE represents the name, or URL, of a specific Google Sites website. 

As of July 7, 2009, Google Sites now allows for previously deleted site names to be reused.  This change impacts sites under the sites.google.com/site domain, and permanently associates the site name with the user account  under which it was originally created.
